1. Disclaimer
~~~~~~~~~~~~~
The use of this program is at your own risk. I
do not take any responsibility for any damages
to the game or your machine.
Furthermore I recommend strongly to make a backup of any
file you're going to change.
2. How does it work?
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

a) Open a language file

   First, you've got to open a language file to edit. These are
   located in a folder named "TEXT" in your gta home directory.
   Then the program displays who many entries are in the file
   (really unimportant, but interesting...)

b) Edit the file

   GTA VICE CITY ONLY: In the drop down box on the top you'll find a
     list with tables. Select a table first or just edit the "MAIN"
     table which is the most important anyway.
     If you open a gta3 text file, the drop down box will be disabled.

   In the list you'll see the text entries that exist in the game.
   Click on one of them and the according text will be displayed on the
   right side.
   To see how it will look in game, you have to click on "Apply".

c) How to make changes

   You can just type your new text. If you want to change the color
   you will have to select the desired part of the text an select the
   new color from the dropdown on the top.

   You can also copy and paste a text. When you click on "copy", the whole
   text is copied to the clipboard, including all keys and colours.
   When you click on "paste", the text from the clipboard will be inserted.
   It will overwrite any text which is in text field.

! IMPORTANT: Key-symbols (underlined) should NOT be changed!
   If you do so, it should be a valid key name, like "Vehicle-Enter-Exit"
   or something like that. You can insert a key manually by clicking on
   "Key" nearby the colour selector.

! IMPORTANT: Variables (italic) should NOT be changed AT ALL! The game
   will replace them later with some special values, like daytimes or
   city areas (for the taxi mission etc.). If the italic text is not
   "[number]" or "[text]" or whatever your language file says, you'll
   get an error message.

d) Search

   If you're looking for something special, type the keyword into the text
   area on the left and click on "Start". Or if you already know the
   key of your text, type it into the text area on the top.
   Hint: The search always starts from the current cursor position in the list
   downwards. So it might be better to click on the first entry before
   starting a search.

e) Apply changes

   After having changed the text, click on "Apply" - your new text will
   be saved: But not yet to disk, just in the list.

   If you click on revert the text will be reverted (really logic, isn't it?)

! "Revert" won't work if you already clicked on "Apply". In this case
   you have to reload the file (all other changes are gone then)

   Finally click on "Save" to save the file. I recommend, as already said
   above, to make a backup of the file before saving it because I do not
   promise it will work (neither the file nor the game).

3. What's new in version 0.93

  Now everyone can translate gta texter in his/her language. Feel free to
  send your language file to me, including your name and whether your e-mail-
  adress can be published or not.
- corrected some bugs you probably didn't even notice ;o)

______________________________________________________________________________

4. gta: vice city information
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
In gta: vice city, the text items are group into separate tables. The
largest table is called "MAIN". When you selected a table from the
drop down box, editing is like in gta3 with a previous version of the
gta III texter.
Some of the texts might be invisible (actually, they're black). They're
only used in the PS2 version of the game, so I couldn't figure out what
the codes used change in the game. Just leave it that way.
gta: vice city support is still experimental now, so please be careful -
this means you should REALLY make a backup of your text files!
At this point I'd like to remind you of point 5. in this read-me document.
I would be very glad to hear from you about the new "vice city extension".
